Abstract

This research aims to re-explore the relationship between men and women which is considered to still be unfair and is considered to trigger inequality which leads to accusations of religion as the cause. This accusation is incorrect, as it could be based on a misinterpretation. The relationship between men and women is essentially based on distribution and responsibility, with culture as its foundation. So, how does religion view the relationship between the two in a proportional position and free from inequality? The verse that is the subject of this discussion is based on QS. al-Nisa'/4:34. Various interpretations have presented their interpretations and provided different understandings. This study uses a qualitative research method using a library study approach, a type of approach whose sources come from written materials such as books, written documents, and others. This study concludes that the West views gender discourse in the realm of equality, leaning more towards liberalism. Meanwhile, Islam views the issue of relations between men and women in the realm of harmony; complementing each other, in harmony, and appropriateness. The injustice of gender relations is caused by society's misunderstanding of QS. al-Nisa' [4]: ​​34. In this study, gender in Islam positions two characters in their respective capacities. lafaz qawwamuna in terms of his manthuq dzahir is the leader and when viewed from the perspective of his muwafaqah understanding, lahn al-khitab is the guard.
